n8n is a builder's workshop.
Engini is the governed front door.
n8n gives technical teams a flexible workflow and agent builder they can self-host. Engini gives agents a governed, ready path into systems of record, with toolsets, approvals and an audit trail on every call.

Flexibility you run, or governance you get
n8n is a popular source-available workflow automation platform with a strong AI toolkit: AI Agent nodes, MCP client and server nodes, instance-level MCP and, since September 2026, n8n Agents in preview. Many teams self-host it for control over data.
Engini is built for the moment agents touch systems of record. Each agent gets a toolset, risky calls wait for a person, and every call is logged with the agent, the person and the arguments.
Where n8n is strong
- Free self-hosted Community Edition and on-prem Enterprise
- Visual canvas plus code, with HTTP requests to any API
- AI Agent node, MCP nodes and instance-level MCP on all plans
- Large community and fast release pace
- Published execution-based pricing with unlimited users
Where Engini is built to win
- Toolsets that decide which tools each agent can see
- Approvals that hold risky calls for a person
- An audit trail of every call, its arguments and the person it acted for
- Live schema for SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, Workday and Salesforce, custom fields included
- On-Prem Agent for systems behind the firewall, outbound only
- MCP, SDK, CLI, REST and a no-code canvas on one core
n8n vs Engini, side by side
Choose Engini, n8n, or both
Choose Engini when
- Your agents act in SAP, NetSuite, Oracle or Workday
- You need per-agent scoping and approvals
- You want governance without operating your own platform
- Security wants an audit trail from day one
Choose n8n when
- Your team wants to self-host and code its own workflows
- You automate across many SaaS tools with technical builders
- You value open source and community nodes
Where the difference shows up
With n8n: Use the HTTP Request node or a community node and maintain the workflow.
With Engini: Connect SAP once and add sap.invoice.post to the agent's toolset with an approval rule.
With n8n: Instance-level MCP exposes all MCP-enabled workflows the user can access.
With Engini: Each client gets its own toolset header, so each sees only its tools.
With n8n: Audit logs are an Enterprise feature.
With Engini: Every call is logged with an audit id on every plan.
Using n8n and Engini together
Builders can keep n8n for team workflows and call Engini from n8n as the governed path into ERP and HR systems, so the sensitive actions get toolsets, approvals and audit.

n8n vs Engini: common questions
Is Engini an n8n alternative?
For governed agent access to systems of record, yes. For flexible self-hosted workflow building, n8n remains a strong choice, and n8n can call Engini through its REST API or MCP.
Does n8n support MCP?
Yes. n8n added MCP Client and MCP Server Trigger nodes in April 2025 and instance-level MCP access in beta in November 2025.
Does n8n have SAP or Workday nodes?
We did not find built-in SAP or Workday nodes in n8n's docs. Teams typically use HTTP requests or community nodes.
How does n8n price?
By workflow executions. n8n publishes Starter from EUR 20 a month and Pro from EUR 50 a month on annual billing, and a free self-hosted Community Edition.
How do I connect my AI agent to Engini?
Point any MCP client to https://mcp.engini.io and pass the toolset you want the agent to use in the X-Engini-Toolset header. The same tools are available from the SDK, the CLI and the REST API, and the agent only sees the tools inside its toolset.
